Kambaku Safari Lodge
Timbavati Private Nature Reserve
KAMBAKU Safari Lodge is well situated in the heart of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which makes up the western border of the Kruger National Park. Without fences, it allows free movement of game between the reserves. Timbavati becomes part of a vast unspoilt natural wilderness area that lies within the Greater Kruger National Park.
Kambaku, Magnificent Seven
KAMBAKU (Solitary Bull elephant), takes its name from one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ tuskers who roamed the Kruger Park for the greater part of the last century. These elephants were renowned for their impressive tusks – having, at least, one tusk with the estimated weight of over 60kg.
At KAMBAKU lodge, the legends linger and are remembered by the naming of each chalet after one of these Magnificent giants of the bush.
The chalets, main lodge buildings and the deck area, all overlook a private waterhole with constant wildlife activity. The activity at the waterhole can be observed and enjoyed either from the privacy of your chalet or from the main lodge area.
Kambaku Safari Lodge provides the ultimate escape from busy schedules with its home-away-from-home ambience. Kambaku Safari Lodge combines simple luxury with a high level of environmental consciousness and relies totally on solar power for the production of all electricity.
Accommodation is exclusive yet affordable, meticulously designed, beautifully constructed and tastefully decorated to blend in with the charm and serenity of the surrounding bush. This family-friendly lodge has a feeling of relaxed intimacy, accommodates only sixteen guests and is ideal for hosting small family gatherings or groups of friends.

Clothing & Etcetera's
What to wear on safari? Cool, casual clothing for lodge wear is the order of the day. Short and sandals and swimwear for the pool are required. Sturdy closed trainers or walking boots are a must for bush walks, and long trousers are a better bet. Do not forget sunglasses, hats and sun-block, and often a lightweight cotton long-sleeved top should be considered for those with a more sensitive skin.
In winter jackets, beanies and scarves will definitely make the mornings and evenings a more comfortable experience, even so, blankets are provided on the drive, and ponchos for rainy days in summer.
Insects and Malaria
Malaria is endemic to the area and tick bite fever is also quite common. Insect repellent on the body is a must, and keeps not only mosquitoes, but tick, spiders and the like at bay, although regular ‘body-bug’ inspections should be done.
Mosquito nets are found in all the rooms, however it is prudent still to take the necessary medications to prevent infection. Please consult your travel clinic or physician before embarking on your journey as there are a number of products on the market, each with their own pros and cons.
Local medical facilities
The lodge has contact 24/7/365 with bush-trained medical personal telephonically and evaluation will be organised should the need arise. Otherwise Hoedspruit, the nearest town, has medical facilities including a military hospital. Please pack your own personal medication required (prescription and otherwise).
